I often draw from mixed reality. No, not with VR headsets, augmented reality, or even worse, AI tools. My mixed reality drawings are a mixture of what I see and my imagination.
I really did see a person wearing a flamingo print shirt, pink Converse high-tops, and a pink-dyed beard and hair. They may have been walking down the street near a bus stop. Since I was driving at the time, I could not stop and sketch the scene. Drawing what I saw later is perfect for mixed reality drawings because it allows my imagination to fill in details or often completely make up new details.
I imagined that the person was at a bus stop and that a large flamingo was standing next to them, perhaps also waiting on the bus.
I had recently read an article on NPR about a flamingo named Pink Floyd who had escaped from the zoo in Wichita, Kansas, and was still on the lam since 2005. Pink was recently spotted in Texas. I can only imagine the amazing adventures that Pink must be having.
Pink Floyd, also known as no. 492, should be an inspiration to us all. We can adopt Pink as our spirit animal. Get out in the world and have adventures!
The new part-time job (more about that soon), along with my other part-time job and illustration work, is still throwing my schedules off. I’m still optimistic that I will get back on my weekly Saturday schedule this coming week. 🤞
Be kind to yourself on your creative journey.

You have reached the end of the newsletter. In recognition of Pink’s 17 years on the run, here is the song “Any Colour You Like” by the band Pink Floyd from their album The Dark Side of the Moon.
Pink Floyd is the best name for a flamenco I have ever heard...admittedly it's the ONLY name for a Flamenco I've ever heard, but I still love it. I find this kind of "mixed reality" really interesting as it makes a big statement about our memories and perception. I remember reading (I think in 7 and a half lessons about the brain) that what we percieve in any moment isn't actually all the information that's come at us. Instead, we take in a small amount and use our memories to help fill in the blanks. That's one of the reasons we end up with flase memories so often. It might be a fun artistic project to make a series of images of confabulations.
You caught me on that mixed reality thing. Love the Flamingo Spirit.
