Keep Your Dreams Alive
The Oscars were on last night. I did not watch the show, but I caught some of the highlights on the Oscar YouTube channel. It reminded me of last year and one of my favorite award moments.
Ke Huy Quan won Best Supporting Actor for ‘Everything Everywhere All at One’ at the 95th Oscars in 2023. In his emotional acceptance speech, he thanked his mom, brother, and wife, Echo.
Your Day Will Come
Echo kept telling him, month after month, year after year, for twenty years, that one day his time would come. There had been a time when he had stepped away from acting. He thought that everyone had forgotten about him.
Dreams Are Something You Have to Believe in.
Quan said that “dreams are something that you have to believe in. I almost gave up on mine. To all of you out there, please keep your dreams alive.”
Quan rose to fame by playing Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Data in The Goonies (1985). After appearing in a few roles in the 1990s, he took a 19-year acting break, during which he worked as a stunt choreographer and assistant director.
Keep Going
Some days, the creative journey will seem impossible, and your dreams are not getting any closer. I know I often feel this way. Maybe I’m stubborn, but I have to keep going. The one thing I am sure of is that if I stop, it is certain that I will never reach my creative dreams. The only thing that makes sense when the world does not make sense is to keep going. Even if the progress is slow, it is far better than none at all.
Be kind to yourself on your creative journey.
