Human Intelligence
It is great to see other creative people pushing back on the swarm of AI that is engulfing the creative industry. I love the idea of a created with human intelligence badge that was started by artist Beth Spencer.
I would, however, be careful about using hashtags that clearly indicate that creative work is made by a human, as I fear that companies training their AI tools will focus on these hashtags. It would be a flag that would make it easy to spot human-created art. It is certainly up to you and your preferences, but at the very least, use tools like Glaze or Nightshade to help protect your work. I wrote about these tools in an earlier newsletter.
Watching cartoons as a kid, I thought we would have software and robots like Rosie the robot from the Jetsons to help us with daily mundane chores so that we would have time to draw and pursue creative projects. Instead, big-tech companies don’t care about artists or creatives. Big-tech cares about the money they can make licensing their software to corporations that poorly pay artists and see this as another way to cut corners and make more profits.
I tried to draw more in my sketchbook this week to get back to analog art.
Be kind to yourself on your creative journey.
