Embracing Imperfection: Boosting Creativity with Cheap Tools
You can unlock your creativity with inexpensive tools. Often, I hesitate to put ideas into my sketchbook, fearing they are not good enough. Yet, a sketchbook is the very place for exploring and developing ideas. Sometimes using cheaper materials and tools can reduce the fear of making “mistakes.”
I bought a pack of small composition books at the dollar store. The pages have lines, which is not ideal for drawing but made me less concerned about wasting paper or messing up. This freedom allowed me to draw more freely and even incorporate the lines into my art.
Carrying this little notebook and an ordinary Paper Mate pen during my weekend trip helped me capture moments on-the-spot that I might have missed otherwise. In my studio, I use white Post-it notes to jot down ideas before refining them in my sketchbook later.
Using cheap tools can help jumpstart your creativity without the pressure of perfection.
Stay curious and creative. Be Kind.
