This past weekend was a holiday weekend in the United States. So it seemed like a good time to relax and take a break from the avalanche of AI tech news. I spent some time outside, mainly doing yard work, but with some breaks, enjoying the occasional sunshine.
While outside, I took time to notice all of the animals in our yard. We have quite a variety of creatures, considering that we live in a large city. We have squirrels, rabbits, groundhogs, skunks, occasional deers, and a large variety of birds.
I did try out an app that can listen to bird sounds and identify the species of bird for you. The one I used is Merlin Bird ID, which works in North America, but I’m sure there are similar apps like it for other regions of the world.
Speaking of birds, it turns out that researchers determined that crows can count. The National Audubon Society has an article about the research on their website. Audubon also has a bird app, but I have not tried it. The Audubon Society also has numerous bird-watching and nature field guides if you would rather have a physical book.
It was good to slow down a little and explore the wonders that my front and back yards had to offer.
Be kind to yourself on your creative journey.
