For many years, I have listened to the album “War” by U2 on New Year’s day. It is partially because of the song New Year’s Day and the fact that I like the entire album. I have been a U2 fan since the album came out in 1983.
The song is about the persecuted leader of the Polish Solidarity movement, Lech Walesa. Coincidentally, the Polish authorities lifted martial law on 1 January 1983, the same day this single was released. The song promotes understanding in a time of unrest. The world often finds itself in times of unrest, then and now.
For me, the song is personal. It is a reminder to begin again.
Begin to create again.
Begin to draw again.
Begin again.
You don’t have to wait for New Year’s Day. Any day can be the day you begin again.
