Bee Sketches and the Apple iPad event
Apple held its iPad event yesterday. They announced the latest versions of the iPad Air, iPad Pro, and the new Apple Pencil Pro.
The spring weather inspired the drawings for the sketchnote. I thought of the Cole Porter song “Let’s Do It.” The version I prefer starts off with the lyrics below. There are other versions that I’m not a particular fan of.
When the little bluebird
Who has never said a word
Starts to sing "Spring, spring"
When the little bluebell
At the bottom of the dell
Starts to ring, ding ding
When the little blue clerk
In the middle of his work
Starts a tune to the moon up above
It is nature, that's all
Simply telling us to fall in loveAnd that's why birds do it, bees do it
Even educated fleas do it
Let's do it, let's fall in love

Pencil Sketches
The Apple events are prerecorded and move quickly. I typically capture the text during the session and then add the drawings. The bee was fun to sketch out quickly. The bird has been in my Apple WWDC sketchnotes for around 8 years now. It is my version of Apple’s Swift programming language logo. The rough pencil sketches and the final illustrations were all created in Concepts.app on an 11” M1 iPad Pro.
Here is a close-up of the bee rocking out pencil sketch. The drums tied the music theme to the Logic Pro 2 announcement.
I will explore some more bee illustrations this week.
Here is a YouTube video of the Cole Porter song and views of Paris.
Be kind to yourself on your creative journey.
