Apple WWDC 2024 Sketchnote and T-shirt
Monday was the kickoff of Apple’s 2024 WWDC (WorldWide Developers Conference). I have sketchnoted the Keynote for almost 10 years now, and this year is no different. The sketchnote above is my take on the announcements that stood out to me. Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, which they call “AI for the rest of us.” Many of the features and updates to the fall iOS, iPadOS, and macOS releases will have Apple’s AI at the core.
One of the things I miss about the in-person days of the WWDC was meeting lots of brilliant people and the swag from various companies. There were always tables of stickers, enamel pins, and shirts at the conference and the numerous social events.
Back in 2020, I decided to make my own DubDub (the nickname for the WWDC) t-shirt with drawings I liked from my sketchnotes. It was fun creating the t-shirt, and I decided it was time to do it again.
Creating the Rainbow Satellite
The little satellite from the sketchnote really stood out to me, and I wanted to create a t-shirt design paying homage to Apple’s original rainbow logo design but shifting the colors to my color palette.
The design needed to be updated a little to work better for print. The original brush that I use for my sketchnotes is more like a felt-tip pen. For the t-shirt design, it needed to be smoother to help the kawaii feel. Fortunately, this is pretty easy and quick with the software that I use, Concepts, to change the brush on a design after the fact. I then added the rainbow and an outline for dark-colored skirts using Affinity Designer. I think that the final version with the rainbow turned out like I had in mind.
Here is the final version of the t-shirts, which are available on Threadless and Amazon.
